After surviving Japanese internment during World War II, Donald Brotchie was appointed Captain of SS Shengking. This ship played a significant role in evacuating foreigners and refugees from China as Communist forces took control. Seen below is a photograph of SS Shengking, followed by two photographs of Captain Donald Brotchie and a 1950 article form the "China Mail" regarding the service of SS Shengking and her Captain.
