PHOTOGRAPH GALLERY TWO Stanley Till The photographs appearing in this gallery come from the records of Stanley Till who served on HMS Scarab as she patrolled the Yangtse river in 1935. During that year a terrible flood occurred in the Yangtse basin, raising the river level more than 60 feet in a week and killing more than 140,000 people. Many of the photographs appearing here document this event. The photographs range in area from Shanghai to Chungking and provide some fascinating insight into the state of China during this period. I am immensely grateful to the Till family for permitting these photographs to be posted on the site. Requests to use these photographs are welcome, but publication (by any means) may only occur with prior approval of the Till family.
