The photographs appearing on this page were found in the same album as
the other photographs appearing in this gallery. The following photographs
were probably taken in the mid to late 1920s (It should be noted that Steve
Whelan's uncle, Dudley John Foster, was a Royal Navy submariner during
WWII. It is conceivable that his training may have occurred on similar
vessels (rather dated by WWII standards) to those seen below). There can
be no doubt that the following submarine photographs were taken somewhere
in the Far East but it is not known whether they come from China. If anyone
can shed light on the identity of the vessels portrayed in these photographs
(or the location where the photographs were taken) please contact Steve Whelan. (Note: I was recently contacted by Paul Jacobs who identified the ship
in the background of the shot immediately below as a Hawkins Class cruiser.
As HMS Hawkins was on China Station from 1919 to 1929 it is probably her
(another alternative is Hawkins' sister, HMS Effingham, which was at the
East Indies Station from 1925 to 1932).

Below: This ship is clearly a Royal Navy vessel given her trailing flag.
I would hazard a fairly confident guess that she is a Ceres Class light
cruiser (built around 1918, this set of C Class light cruisers consisted
of 12 ships).
