"Near Woosung." - This is close to Shanghai on the coast of China.

"Chinkiang. In the courtyard of the Silver Temple." - Chinkiang (modern day spelling "Zhenjiang") is where the Grand Canal (built 485 B.C. and connecting Tientsin and Hangchow) intersects the Yangtze. It is approximately 200 miles up river form Shanghai on the lower Yangtze. A famous pagoda stands on Golden Island and I believe this is part of it. The Yangtze has moved in a odd way causing Golden Island to actually cross the river in the last 250 years. I would assume that the naval crew seen here is from the Falcon and my Grandfather, John Addiscott, is the one nearest to the dog.

"Sunset at Chinkiang."

This shot was taken at Nanking which is on the Yangtze, approximately 250 miles up river from Shanghai. I'm stumped by the caption: "Falcon's and (see graphic below the shot) football teams at Nanking." The Falcon's crew is in the darker jerseys and my Grandfather, John Addiscott, is directly in the center of the shot. The other team may be the crew of another nation's ship. (Update: Paul Jacobs recently contacted me and suggested that the other ship's team is probably from the Italian cruiser Quarto. I think he's got it right.)
