"The Chinese General with our officers." - I was recently contacted by Peter Oliver whose Grandfather, Surgeon Lieutenant John Widdecombe Oliver, appears in this photograph (officer with beard seen behind). The other Royal Navy officer in the back row is probably Lt. J. Lee Barber and the officer sitting down is Lieutenant-Commander G. R. Fuller (senior officer of HMS Falcon). Royal Navy gunboats had senior officers ranging from Lieutenants to Rear Admirals and it is very difficult to determine the officer commanding any specific vessel simply by examining their rank. Of equal interest in this shot is the Chinese General, whom I have yet to identify.

Note the rise of the mountains in the background.

An NCO of the Falcon.

This seems to be a shot of some of the Falcon's crew (my Grandfather is in the background, immediately right of the table - John Oliver (bearded) is see at the far left of the shot).

"Your boozy son handing the beer out from the pool. Looks like it doesn't it." - I suspect the only cold storage on the Yangtze was the Yangtze itself.
