If you are interested in this period I would highly recommend, "The Royal Navy and the Sino-Japanese Incident", by Martin H. Brice. Originally published in 1973, this truly excellent work discusses the Royal Navy as the Japanese attempted the conquest of China. The time period discussed is from 1937 to 1941 and the book has numerous photo plates.
